At Home with Kids

For parents Chip and Wynne Dickenson of Fayetteville, the freestanding garage in their backyard wasn’t much to look at until they decided to contact interior designer Missi Walker, charging her with creating a retreat for the family’s teenage children, Skylar and Charlie. The kitchenette includes colorful lighting against the stainless-steel backsplash and all the necessary appliances and cabinetry.

Artwork by daughter Skylar lends a playful touch to the teen retreat, and the entire project was a collaboration between interior designer Missi Walker, Skylar and Charlie.

In Angela Harrison King’s Little Rock home, she drew on her daughters’ love of dogs and bright colors in creating their downstairs playroom.

Blues and greens with punches of pinks outfit Ashton’s room. “She loves blues and greens,” her mom Angela says. “When I first painted the walls, they reminded me of an aquarium, but she loves it and it matches her personality.”

In daughter Haven’s room, light pink walls create the perfect canvas for the zebra-print accented room. “Haven had to have the zebra print,” Angela says. “It was fun to incorporate it throughout the room with the fabrics and accessories.”

Mom-to-be Jennifer Schueck turned to Laurie McFarland, owner of Tuck & Cover in Little Rock, to design the perfect room for her twin girls. “Laurie really connected with the vision I had for the room,” Jennifer says. “I wanted it to be girlie, but also slightly traditional and definitely soothing.”
