Where Sophistication Meets Fun
A Little Rock designer brings personality and flair to the home of a growing family

When their two daughters were joined by twin boys, Shannon and Scott Davis decided it was time to make their youngest daughter Neely's room into something extra special and turn her old nursery into something more fitting for their newborn sons, Scott and Fallon. With the help of designer Marla Webb, whose work Shannon first saw at The Stork Stop in Little Rock, which carries her artwork and hand-painted furniture. “I was originally looking for someone to paint the murals for me, but then I discovered Marla did much more,” Shannon says.
Shannon shared her vision with Marla for Neely's room, and Marla immediately understood the look she was after. “She wanted to go with a Parisian style,” Marla says. “Neely is a very feminine little girl who likes everything pink and loves clothes and shopping. She's already very into fashion, so the shopping theme worked well with the pink and black color scheme that Shannon chose.” The room is a dream for a three-year-old girl, but still sophisticated enough to carry on into later years. “We didn't want to make the room too youthful, because we wanted it to be able to grow with her,” Marla says.
Many of the items in Neely's room were crafted just for her. The black and pink bedding was a collaborative effort between Fabrics Etc. and Tuck & Cover, both in Little Rock. Her window treatments were also custom made along with the valances. “I made the mount of wood and hand painted them to go along with the theme,” says Marla.
Designing the twins' room was much different. “When I was designing for Neely she was literally by my side, but the boys weren't even born yet when we started coming up with ideas,” Marla says. Shannon chose a sophisticated frog theme that she hoped could last them past a nursery age. “Before I found out I was having twins, I knew I wanted to use a frog theme for the new nursery, and Marla really got inside my head and drew exactly what I wanted,” Shannon says.
Marla kept the twins and their growth in mind throughout the design process. “I tried to go with lots of patterned things down low so the boys could crawl and still see them,” says Marla. The room combines striped and checkered patterns, and the ceiling is covered in large circles that really give Scott and Fallon something to look at.” Marla painted a pair of frog murals once Shannon learned she was having twins. “When I found out that Shannon was having twins, I knew that I wanted to use mirror images,” she says, and the murals were inspired by the frog bedding.
Marla was able to make the Davis' dreams for their children's rooms a reality. “I wanted all the children to have a really special place that they could enjoy and have fun in,” Shannon says. “I was pregnant, and Neely was only about eighteen months old when we were remodeling so I was very busy. Marla really made everything easy for me, and I was able to enjoy the process.” says Shannon.
