As the home of Arkansas State University, Jonesboro has a thriving artistic community, from visual arts to music to live theater, as well as being northeast Arkansas’ medical center, with St. Bernards Regional Medical Center bringing patients and providers in droves. The large town of almost 60,000 people is the area’s retail hub as well, with the opening of the new Turtle Creek Mall and a wide range of stores and restaurants throughout the surrounding retail corridor. Downtown, revitalization efforts have inspired several new loft-living developments, as well as high-end retail boutiques, antique stores, restaurants and private clubs. Residential development continues to push south with suburban and golf-course centered developments along the hilly Crowley’s Ridge, while rice and soybeans prosper on the delta below.
