by Sylvie Chadenet comes highly recommended in the antiques world with 750 line drawings and brief descriptive texts of French furniture spanning four centuries. It’s a handy resource for experts like Renee Hunt at French Metro Antiques in Fayetteville (who recommended it to me), but it’s so easy to use that even novices should consider adding it to their reading repertoire.
Beginning with an illustrated glossary of terms (Did you know that a “chiffonniere” is a small, high table on legs and equipped with three drawers? Or that an “encoignure” is a corner cupboard?), it also includes a discussion of the social trends that affected each era of design. If you love French furniture, or just want a fun read for the ensuing weekend, you’ll have a tough time putting this one down.
PS- Have a look at these French furniture cameos on the pages of At Home in Arkansas… très belle!

As you can imagine, I’m a huge fan of home tours. Here’s one with an environmentally-friendly twist, happening in Northwest Arkansas tomorrow.
[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_large”,”fid”:”81829″,”attributes”:{“class”:”media-image alignleft size-medium wp-image-1450″,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”,”style”:””,”width”:”300″,”height”:”225″,”title”:”Stitt Energy new office”,”alt”:”Stitt Energy new office”}}]]
Rogers-based Stitt Energy Systems and the American Solar Energy Society (ASES) are bringing together more than 5,000 homes, schools and businesses across the U.S. to participate in the 14th Annual ASES National Solar Tour to help residents combat rising energy prices and improve property values.
On September 26, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., two solar tour locations will be open in Northwest Arkansas. The public can receive a VIP Pass by calling Stitt Energy Systems at 479-636-8745 or 800-367-7374 before September 26th. These tours are free and open to the public.
The first tour location is the newly renovated and expanded Stitt Energy Systems office, located at 1301 South 8th Street in Rogers, Arkansas, which recently won the Greenest Office in Northwest Arkansas Award from Northwest Arkansas Business Journal and the City of Rogers 2009 Commercial Development of the Year Award.
The second tour location is a residence located at 10068 Sun Ridge Circle, in the energy-planned community of South Sun Estates on the Lake, near Rogers. This beautiful home demonstrates passive solar orientation and features a Photovoltaic System that generates electricity and a solar water heating system. It has a near $0 utility bill and is a past EnergyValue Housing Award winner.
A listing of other tour dates, additional information and locations is available at www.NationalSolarTour.org <http://www.nationalsolartour.org/> .
