Designer Brad Beach transforms a former bedroom into a feminine office for a Springdale business owner
When Deanah Baker decided to update her Springdale home, she turned to her former colleague and friend, Brad Beach. The two had spent years working together in Walmart’s corporate offices, but both had moved on to independent ventures—Deanah as a consultant, and Brad as an interior designer.
With Deanah’s business taking off, Brad noticed her need for a workspace, in particular. “She runs a large consulting business, so she’s on Zoom calls and in meetings all day long,” he says. “She needed a dedicated, beautiful office and wanted it to be comfortable and functional.” “Since Covid, I had been working like a nomad, from a desk in the living room to the kitchen table to a couch to outdoors,” Deanah adds. When the Bakers’ youngest son relocated to another room, they took the opportunity to turn his former bedroom into an office.
The all-pink theme was Brad’s idea. “At the beginning, when he suggested pink, I joked that I didn’t want to be a Disney princess,” Deanah says. “I did not want it to look like a five-year-old’s dream.” But Brad knew her style, and she trusted him. To set a timeless tone, he first turned to Schumacher’s “Hydrangea Drape” wallpaper in Blush. “We wanted something feminine but not overly sweet,” Brad says. “It’s soft, but it’s not too precious.”
From there, he searched for the ideal desk. “The desk is the focal point,” he says. “It’s the hub of an office, where you’re going to be doing all of your work, and it needs to be right.” For Deanah, he selected a Lexington ivory-colored wooden desk with grooved detailing. Its built-in central column masterfully masks messy cords, which was an important element for functionality as well as aesthetics.
Brad created the statement wall art, with wisps of blue, green, and blush, online with Wendover Art Group. “It’s clever. You pick the art, and they enhance it with the colors you select. That way, we were able to tie it back into the room,” he says. Underfoot, a pink basketweave-style carpet, adds a layer of texture, as do two pink Chanel-inspired tweed swivel chairs. “Deanah is petite, and those chairs are small scale and perfect for her,” Brad says. “She can also spin them around and watch the mounted TV on the other wall when she isn’t working.”
Throughout the project, it’s unsurprising that the former colleagues worked well together. “He already knew my personality,” Deanah says, “and he would give me options that did not take away from his vision but also allowed me veto power.” “Deanah likes everything pulled together in a story, and her office is a great example of that,” Brad adds. “It’s just a beautiful space that feels timeless.”

“I love the way the patterns complement each other and stop the pink from being overpowering. It’s unique, but in some masterful way, it fits the aesthetic found throughout our house.”

Adding Layers
A tight-weave wool bound carpet by Stark complements a pair of swivel barrel chairs that sit in front of Deanah’s desk. Brad notes that while the colors and fabrics “aren’t a dead match, they have the same DNA.”

Timeless Touch
Schumacher’s “Hydrangea Drape” wallpaper in Blush covers the walls. The work of iconic interior designer Hobe Erwin, the classic pattern appeared in “Gone With the Wind” in 1939 and remains relevant today.

Tied Together
Visual Comfort’s “Hampton” ceiling fixture in a subtle, plaster-white finish adds interest overhead without becoming a focal point. Brad notes that its leaf motif echoes the wallpaper pattern. “There’s a method to the madness,” he says. “It all ties together.”

Down to the Details
The custom drapes with a creamy, fringe detail are made of Schumacher performance linen in Azalea. “I always use a trim, usually a fringe or a piece of tape, to frame the window nicely,” Brad says.
