Homeowners Shannon and Mike Arcana were fearless when it came to choosing the color palette for their Fayetteville pool house. Working closely with interior designer Katie Hatfield, owner of Moxie Interiors and co-owner of Moxie Sisters, they encouraged her to create striking, colorful spaces. “Most people have a difficult time envisioning a final result,” she says, “especially when it comes to vibrant tones.” Shannon was unsure of the exact color scheme she wanted, but she knew she wanted to include rich hues. “She had a great abstract painting with very rich reds, and I suggested she visit a fabric store to find some samples that she loved to build upon,” Katie says. “She also brought me dishes that were lime green, turquoise and bright red, and I took that palette and ran with it.” The Arcanas’ home and pool house are busy and bustling with visiting kids and grandkids, and Katie ‘s goal was to position the pool house as a meeting place for friends and family, like a vacation home for every day. “My vision for the pool house was to have a fun, open space where my family could relax, swim and entertain friends,” Shannon says. The warm color palette and kid-friendly materials cater to the family’s laid-back lifestyle. “The Arcanas wanted to welcoming space perfect for entertaining,” Katie says, “and a gas kitchen and outdoor grill to accommodate Mike’s crawfish boils and cookouts. The pass-through window from the kitchen to the patio makes outdoor entertaining a breeze. The stained concrete floors were ideal for the relaxed atmosphere with their ease of maintenance, and we added a skid-resistant texture to keep little wet feet from slipping.” The large family room offers comfy furniture, and the loft area was conceived as a place where the grandkids could play while still being supervised. “My grandkids really enjoy the loft area as their playroom, which is great because we can see them at all times,” Shannon says. The exciting use of color throughout the pool house sets the modern, eclectic tone, and the soft green cabinets paired with the colorful glass tile backsplash and dark granite countertops make for an extraordinary kitchen. “We used bright, funky fabrics for the swivel chairs in both the family room and the loft to add punches of color and texture, making them not only great accent pieces but also very inviting,” Katie says. “The artwork throughout the house is oversized, and the eclectic rugs incorporate outdoor-quality pieces with cherry motifs, while the bedrooms are all about lush textures with pops of color.” One of the biggest compliments is that the Arcana family uses the space frequently. “We enjoy the pool house all the time, whether it’s relaxing while watching movies, cooking out or hosting holiday parties,” Shannon says. “Katie did such a wonderful job. We recommend her all the time to friends, and I think her colorful and thoughtful designs speak for themselves.” Design Resources Architect Denny Becker |
