The January/February issue of At Home in Arkansas is filled with design inspiration and resources from around the state. We also had the pleasure of showcasing the award-winning designs of Arkansas members of the American Society of Interior Designers in our 2013 Design Book. Each week throughout January and February, we’ll be showcasing a few of our favorites. Today’s room comes from the ASID Ovation Award Winner for Best Overall Commercial Design, Andrea Cornwell of iSpace, LLC.
In historic Eureka Springs, Cornwell was asked to develop a dynamic speakeasy atmosphere where guests could enjoy notable jazz combos or classic burlesque at this new restaurant and lounge. Cornwell worked with the existing structure, tables, chairs and bar; she added new furniture to generate focus away from the bar’s wood tones. The existing tables were covered in black linens and glowing cocktail tables add to the ambient feeling of the lounge. Because old murals painted on the walls were historic and couldn’t be painted over, Cornwell covered them with jewel-toned textiles and lush, velvet fabrics, then added shimmering chandeliers and vintage furniture reminiscent of a bygone era to give the lounge its rich, lavish feel.
