A Shine to Shibori
Head to any apparel shop, and you’re likely to find the tie-dye trend in abundance. While it may be all the rage today, the pattern is anything but new. A more intricate, detailed technique known as shibori, which means to press or wring, was popularized in Japan during the 17th and 18th centuries. To create the one-of-a-kind designs, a fabric piece is wrapped tightly with thread and then dyed, traditionally with indigo. The textile art produces beautiful fabrics with distinctly repetitive motifs that have become iconic. We love seeing these fabrics used on throws and pillows to add intrigue to a home’s décor.
