Designer Kathryn LeMaster helps a Fayetteville kitchen reach its full potential

While it can be tempting to remodel immediately after moving into a new house, sometimes the best results come after living in a place for a while first. Such was the case with designer Kathryn LeMaster’s clients in Fayetteville, a young family in need of a kitchen remodel. “They had been in the house for about four years,” Kathryn says, noting that the time they spent living in the space helped them determine a list of priorities: new flooring, better flow, lighter style, and more personality. “The before was dark and dysfunctional, and the cabinets felt worn from previous owners,” the designer says.

This contemporary home in Fayetteville was built for togetherness. “They’re a big, busy family, so they wanted their house to be a place they could all gather and be together,” says designer Casey Sarkin, who worked with the homeowners on the plans. “We also designed it to be clean with lots of built-in organization, because she doesn’t like a lot of clutter.”

When designer Susan Latta first met with clients to discuss the look for their new master bathroom, she was given a unique directive: “Bring the outdoors in and emphasize the windows,” says Latta, “which was such a nice change of pace from homes where privacy is a problem.”

Situated at a quiet corner of the home and screened with a wooded backyard, the room was inherently private, and allowing unobstructed natural light to flow into the space was a possibility. “That set the tone,” says Latta, “for creating a relaxing, restful place.”
