Home Show Revisits North Little Rock
The Home Builders Association of Greater Little Rock hosts its 67th annual Home Show on February 23–24 at Simmons Arena (previously Verizon Arena) in North Little Rock. The event is an opportunity to visit hundreds of vendors, interact with professionals, and learn about products that could improve your building or remodeling experience. Milk Carton Open in Fayetteville
Home goods and gift store The Milk Carton opened this fall at 352 West Ave. in Fayetteville in the building once occupied by Mae’s Emporium.
The shop was named so because a milk carton is a “seemingly insubstantial object, yet it evokes a feeling of nostalgia,” says April Rae Mallord, who owns the store along with Lauri Matisse and Wally Phillips. “Everyone remembers sitting at lunchtime with their friends through elementary, middle school, and high school with at least one milk carton present on the table. … The Milk Carton is meant to evoke that childlike curiosity, contentedness, and wonder that we all had as children—when we could find joy in the small, seemingly insignificant things,” April explains. “The building itself seems small and insubstantial, but once you open the door, just like a milk carton, you enter a world of enchantment, never knowing what magical finds will delight you.”
According to April, 60% of the shop’s goods—including blankets, ceramics, art, and her own line of handmade candles, Hobby & Hum—are made locally by Arkansas artisans. M2 Gallery Reopens in SOMA

After 11 years in Little Rock’s Pleasant Ridge Town Center, M2 Gallery has moved to a storefront in the city’s South Main neighborhood. “We’ve had our eye on this spot for a long time,” says Mac Murphy, who owns the gallery with his wife, Ashley. “We’d talked about if we were to move, where would we go? And we already spend time here and have friends in the community, so we’re glad to be a part of it as it keeps growing.”
In addition to showing work from 25-plus artists and offering framing services, the new location features additional studio space (Ashley also runs a photography business); a curated collection of vintage pieces; and a special “works on paper” room with prints and drawings organized to allow shoppers to easily view 2-D pieces. M2 Gallery is located at 1300 Main St., next door to South on Main and below the Oxford American offices.

Mountain St., just around the corner from their previous location on East Center Street. “We just moved one block over into Flora Fayetteville’s old space,” owner Rebekah Fress says, noting that Flora owner Pam Pemberton is moving her floral design practice to a private studio. K. Lewis Interior Design Opens Studio and Showroom
Little Rock designer Krista Lewis of K. Lewis Interior Design has become known for her timeless, polished interiors over the past 17 years. She has now entered another stage of her residential design business by opening a studio in Little Rock’s Riverdale Design District. “We wanted a space where we could meet with clients, receive furniture and store it, and have a small showroom,” Krista says, noting that the shop’s offerings will continue to grow over time.

Antique Brick Outdoors Introduces Hanging Bed Brand
After years of looking for the perfect hanging beds for the Antique Brick Outdoors showroom, colleagues Loren Layton and Megan Thomas decided to design their own. “We always get requests at Antique Brick for outdoor hanging beds,” Loren explains. “We attend market every year, but we’ve never found a source where we loved the design. So we decided to start Melo.” The name, Melo, reflects the names of its creators—“me” for Megan and “lo” for Loren.
The duo, both central Arkansas natives, created four designs named after local neighborhoods—Heights, SoMa, Hillcrest, and Argenta—that tend to feature historic homes with front porches. “We picture these beds on porches where people enjoy them year-round,” Loren says. “We named them after these neighborhoods because they are designed and manufactured here, and we wanted them to reflect that.” Melo made its debut at Casual Market Chicago in September.

Interior Design Society to Establish Arkansas Chapter
Interior Design Society (IDS) is a national association of residential interior design professionals that offers continuing education, business resources, and networking opportunities for interior designers and vendors within the design community. While members all over the country can join independent of a local chapter, Little Rock designer and IDS member Shayla Copas hopes to recruit more members in The Natural State with the establishment of an Arkansas chapter.
“I’ve been attending the convention for four years now,” Shayla says. “I went to a leadership seminar that first year and remember thinking this might be something I wanted to bring back to Arkansas. Since then, I’ve immersed myself in the organization, knowing that if I was going to encourage others to join, I wanted to make sure it was something I believed in.”
In partnership with At Home in Arkansas, Shayla will help facilitate a kick-off event October 25 for designers interested in joining IDS. The organization’s national executive director, Jenny Cano, plans to be in attendance. “I’ve heard people say before, ‘I’m scared to join an organization because I’m self taught,’ but IDS is very inclusive,” Shayla says of the organization. “There are different levels of membership based on your experience and education, but they don’t exclude anyone. That’s one thing I really love about it,” she adds.
