We’ll admit that Chanel went a little over the top with the Spring 2010 RTW collection, showcasing an assortment of barn-inspired ensembles (notice the hay in the background) featuring basket weave, poppy prints and wooden clogs. But it was fun and flirty, and we couldn’t deny its similarities to the images of the quilt collection we featured in our July issue (photography by Nancy Nolan; full story available at athomearkansas.com/article/history-pieces). What do you think? Did Chanel take it too far?

Tulip Louise: One Girl, Five Spring Looks
Itâs officially spring, ladies! Time to peel back the bulky sweaters, exfoliate that winter skin and soak up the extra hours of daylight. Yes, spring comes with a ton of great perks but the clothing transition can be totally daunting. Anna Chatelain of Tulip Louise is here to help take the pressure off and get your wardrobe prepped + ready.
The Spring 2011 Trends You Need to Know:
Look A:
Want to channel your inner Chloe or Isabel Marant? Then itâs time to hop on the sheer trend bandwagon. Hint: Always pair your sheer item up with an opaque article of clothing underneath for adequate coverage. Look A also plays with colorblocking, which has become a huge sensation via the likes of Jil Sander! Hint: Make sure all pieces are solids; either in the same color family or in complementary hues.

Look B:
You donât have to be a world traveler to embrace the tribal trendâwhether you choose to experiment with a blouse or a necklace, try mixing fun patterns and colors together. Itâs also no secret that high-waisted pants are back in a big way. Donât fight it. Begin by pulling out interesting tops and start tucking in already! Hint: Go for bright and/or patterned blouses, paired with solid pants.

Look C:
Celebrate fringe this spring! When used properly, the unexpected texture can add a really nice addition to an otherwise simple outfit. Hint: This works best in moderation, so limit yourself to one fringed piece per look {i.e., skirt OR handbag}. Please also note that Look C is featuring yet another sheer top!

Look D:
Summon the flower child within, because this seasonâs star of the show is definitely the 70s trend. Super flared jeans, floppy hats, platform wedges and loads of bangles are all welcome!

Look E:
What is spring without flowers? Boring. Inject a touch of floral into your wardrobe with either a flirty dress, a pair of high waisted shorts or subtle accessories!

Which look are you most excited to try for spring?

Sequins, go for it.
Take the plunge and go for embellished accents. It’s important to show restraint when working with sequins. Bejeweled throw pillows introduce the trend in moderation.
Elie Saab

Colored corduroy returns.
Once praised for its schoolyard style, corduroy returns for a more mature audience. Dyed cords in pinks, purples and oranges add color without overpowering. When used for upholstery, look to corduroy for lasting durability.
Alice + Olivia
Graceful florals introduce charm.
Utilize floral prints with feminine appeal. Traditionally reserved for springtime apparel, floral prints are set to uplift conventional layouts. Choose warm neutrals or bold jewel tones for a charming finish.
Lanvin
Rebecca Taylor
Aviary themes fly above the conventional.Â
Show your admiration for nature’s winged creatures. Bird silhouettes and antiqued cages convey French Country styling. Look for upholstered pieces with understated prints.
Miu Miu
Take the lead with metallic finishes.
Gold intends to reclaim its first-place status. Use natural wood and rich black accents to tame the bold metallics. It’s an opulent finish for conventional furniture and serving ware.

Faux fur trimmings complete the look.
It’s impossible to deny fur’s posh effect. Welcome fall’s cool front with luxe trim and accessories. Faux fur is both cost effective and animal approved.
Tory Burch
Burberry Prorsum
Complementary colors work together.
Revive colonial traditions with patchwork designs. Contemporary color palettes update the classic pattern for modern preferences.

Have you seen this home in our current issue? If not, you MUST check it out on our web site (here)! Such a gracious, beautifully designed home, and that’s especially true for the kitchen area! And it appears Carolina Herrera fell for the same color palette, which she used in her Spring 2012 collection.

Elie Saab’s dreamy Spring 2012 runway collection featured a virtual rainbow of colors, not unlike the fantastic paperweight collection we featured in our Jan/Feb issue! The colors make them both an utter delight to look at, especially during the gray days of winter, don’t you think? In fact, the collector displays her paperweights as a pop of color in her formal living room for all to see! Check out the full story on these paperweights here, and for the full effect of Elie Saab’s collection (lots more looks on the runway!), click here.

Orange and turquoise blue complement nicely in this Matthew Williamson look, as well as in this Little Rock home, featured in our Color Issue and photographed by Nancy Nolan. Not too bold, not too subtle.
