A few weeks ago. I had the pleasure of attending a design seminar given by the editor of House Beautiful magazine, Newell Turner. He talked about the big trends he’s been seeing in design, and grouped them into four categories. And as he was talking, I was, of course, thinking about our own state, and if the trends applied. Here’s what came to mind:
Trend 1: The New Victorian
This trend has to do with classic design but with a modern feel. Traditional, historical, but more pared down, even a bit quirky. Dark accents figure prominently too.

Trend 2: Glam!
This one needs little explanation–and I think it must be a Southern fave, because we see lots of glamorous interiors. These rooms are ready for their close-up.

Trend 3: The Accessorator
Traditional with a twist, colorful, fun and fashionable all describe this trend. Sounds like a Southern girl, right? Who doesn’t love a good accessory or two?

Trend 4: The Ruralist
This trend has country roots but with a pared down sensibility and clean lines.

Which style is your favorite? Can you see some of these influences in your own place? We’d love to hear what you think!
