Set the table for summer with a mix of textures and colors and your beautiful tablescape will become the topic of discussion. We began with a Daffodil tablecloth from Xochi and poppy-inspired table runner from The Kitchen Company, Conway. White dinner plates from Paul Michael, Lake Village, balance the vibrant red Vietri salad plates from The Full Moon, Little Rock. We topped them off with Danic cloth napkins in navy, gathered with Marble Curry napkin rings by Xochi, also available at The Kitchen Company. Get Away to Greers Ferry Lake

Originally built in 1884 so that trains could cross the Arkansas River, the Junction Bridge now offers pedestrians and cyclists a means of traveling between Little Rock’s River Market district and North Little Rock’s Riverfront Park. The nation’s only pedestrian bridge with a lift span, it reopened last year after a decade-long, $5.8 million transformation. Complete with elevators, staircases, benches and even wi-fi access, it’s ready for the next century of use.

Moore-Hornor House

The history of the Moore-Hornor house closely mirrors that of Helena, where it was built in 1859. Robert Caswell Moore, one of the few men who returned to Helena after the Civil War, purchased the home, which overlooks Graveyard Hill, the site of the Battle of Helena on July 4, 1863. Moore’s daughter married John Sidney Hornor, who founded West Helena and built a streetcar line between the two cities, and the couple raised their family in the home. A beautiful example of asymmetrical Greek Revival and Italianate architecture, the Moore-Hornor house was damaged by fire in 1994. Now owned by the Delta Cultural Center and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it serves as a field lab for the Arkansas Institute for Historic Building Preservation Trades, which was created by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program of the Department of Arkansas Heritage and Phillips Community College to meet the state’s need for artisans who are comprehensively trained in traditional preservation trades to maintain, rehabilitate and restore historic buildings.

Rogers and Bentonville

Just a short drive from Fayetteville, these two northwest Arkansas towns constantly draw crowds to enjoy a great local retail scene, ranging from high fashion to home furnishings. Bentonville, the headquarters of Wal-Mart, will soon welcome Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. While it’s under construction, visitors can see touring exhibitions and a scale model of the museum at Crystal Bridges at the Massey, located just off the square. Rogers has become a huge retail hub, with development continuing to grow around Interstate 540.
