We love a win-win! Inspired by the success of the “Cash for Clunkers” program, the U.S. Department of Energy will launch a “Cash for Appliances” program this fall, providing nearly $300 million in stimulus funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to consumers who purchase new energy-efficient kitchen appliances. We included a roundup of some of the newest products in our Kitchen and Bath issue. Got a clunker in the kitchen? Think about switching out to one of these instead. https://athomearkansas.com/At-Home-Arkansas/September-2009/Ready-Set-Renovate/

Here’s one of my favorites. She’s incorporated some good tips too in her posts this week for creating functional yet pretty family rooms.
White Hot Products from ICFF
Art director Mandy Keener’s white hot picks from ICFF.
1. This clever bookcase by Jordi Mila is a graphic way to display your art
books . 2. Feeling a little loopy? American white wood âAgathaâ pendant by
Global Lighting. 3. Henry Hall Designsâ Vintage chaise invites one to grab a
cocktail and stay for awhile. 4. Hung in clusters with LED light, Moloâs
Cloud Softlight makes a bold statement. 5. Beware: Robots are everywhere.
Add a little quirkiness to your home with the Robot by Seletti.
If I Were a Kid…
It seems art director Mandy Keener is a child at heart. In light of our August Family Homes issue (now online), here’s what she has to say about decorating a kid’s room…her way.
I was fortunate to have parents that let me decorate my room as a youngster. I donât think that hand-painted light switches or entire walls converted into collages were what they had in mind though. At one point, my closet even became an âofficeâ for my book about saving the dolphins and whales. Things have changed since then. Kids have way cooler design elements these days.
Here are a few that I would have totally incorporated into my space:
1. Inspiration from this kid-cool book, Tiny Art Director by Bill Zeman. 2. Rainy day? No problem with this Hopscotch rug from CB2. 3. Love illustrations and itâs a whale (would have been great for my book), available at Binth.com. 4. Framed wallpaper from The Land of Nod; any creative kid and/or adult would savor this! 5. From serif to sans serif to script, notNeutral keeps the ABCâs font-tastic with these building blocks. 6. Numbers are cool too! Especially with this limited print from milkmoonkids.com. 7. I could totally rock out to my Alvin & the Chimpmunks records in this Buttercup Rocker by Blu Dot.

At Home’s (Colorful Kid’s) Room of the Week, designed by Tobi Fairley
Room of the Week 9.07.10
For today’s pick: a beautiful bath, introduced at KBIS 2010 (the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show), which was held in Chicago.
This was my favorite room from the hundreds of media images I reviewed in putting together our new product picks for our September Kitchen and Bath issue. When I saw this Kohler tub, which has a BubbleMassage feature (you have to read about it to appreciate it, but it sounds heavenly…), I was ready for a soothing soak.
Seeing the new products introduced each year is always a treat, a preview to what we might see in showrooms and homes in the future. And the shots that show the products in room settings are especially inspiring, a different look than we might find locally. Like this MTI Whirlpool Lydia bath–I loved the look of the tile run on the vertical instead of the usual horizontal.
Or this striking black and white bath, with a geometric Petra tub from MTI Whirlpool. The way the black and white tile was inset in the shower–and how it complements the floor–caught my eye.

Next year’s KBIS is slated for Las Vegas–and thanks to our Traveling Designer, Tobi Fairley, we have choice hotels and restaurants all ready for you to start booking.
