Designer Lisa Stagg and her husband, Paul, build an inviting home to welcome friends and family
When a Realtor approached interior designer Lisa Stagg and her husband, Paul, with a client interested in purchasing their North Little Rock home of two decades, the answer was a polite no. However, wanting to give their friend the benefit of showing the house, they agreed and received an offer that same night. “We thought, We don’t want to move; we’re not going to do that,” Lisa recalls. As the client continued to send offers over the next few weeks, Paul said, Why not? “I had always wanted to build, and we thought this was our chance,” Lisa says.

Homeward Bound
After decades in the Pacific Northwest, a couple starts putting roots back down in their hometown of Wynne
Home had been calling for Kimberly and Tanton Gibbs for a while. Originally from Wynne, Tanton’s career took the high school sweethearts to Seattle in 2008. Over the years, they stayed close to loved ones in Arkansas, and recently they had been toying with the idea of migrating back to the South—at least part time. “We decided in 2021 we would buy a house in Wynne,” Kimberly says, noting that the second residence would allow them their own space while visiting family. “After the pandemic Tanton’s job went fully remote, so we could stay longer lengths of time,” she adds.

Cahill Design gives a primary suite a chic upgrade
A love of plants led Marisa Cahill to find her true passion: interior design. “During college, my husband and I would do landscaping jobs to make extra money,” she explains. Wanting to further their business, she taught herself how to do virtual renderings, including exterior home designs. After graduating from Arkansas State University, the Amarillo native caught the eye of Jonesboro designer Kim Biggs, who owns The Vibe Interiors. Under her wing, Marisa learned the ropes of the business before going out on her own in Little Rock, tackling projects of all sizes.

Storied structures, healing waters, and a natural setting continue to make Spa City one of the state’s top destinations
Opened to the public on New Years Eve in 1924, The Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa has been an icon of downtown Hot Springs for just over a century. In celebration of the centennial, the historic structure recently underwent a thoughtful restoration and renovation. Alan Sims, general manager of The Arlington since 2017, describes work on the building’s exterior as particularly extensive. “We chipped away seven layers of stucco and uncovered some incredibly detailed craftsmanship at the top of the hotel that we’ve highlighted now,” he says. Inside, plumbing and electrical updates behind the walls ensure modern-day comfort for guests while the historical charm of architectural molding alongside antique mirrors and chandeliers remains. We spoke with Alan about The Arlington’s 100th anniversary, his favorite bits of Hot Springs history, and what makes Spa City so special.
