Take a step in the right direction with this selection of loafers curated by Anna of Tulip Louise! It’s a hot new trend that we love (comfort is key!), but the number of options out there can be daunting. Do I want colorful? Classic? Leather? Suede? Anna makes it easy by offering her favorites, and also suggestions for how to style them.
Which one will you choose?
Iâm having a major crush on loafers, which happen to be the perfect transitional shoe to carry us from summer to fall! Once I score a set of my very own, I plan to pair them with a classic jean, t-shirt, oversized blazer and bangles for a relaxed {yet pulled together} look. Who knows, I may even throw in some peepers for good measure! I did the dirty work and scoped out what I believe to be the cutest loafers on the market right now:
1. Matiko âLiloâ in Black– $66
2. Steve Madden âMadeeâ in Leopard– $120
3. Todâs Loafer in Fuchsia– $469
4. Matiko âLiloâ in White– $119
5. Senso âEstaâ in Stripe Pony– $170
6. Steve Madden âMadeeâ in Black– $120
Do you have a favorite? Mine has to be #5!

Lately, Anna Cottrell has been impressing the masses with a whole bunch of absolutely lovely content on her blog, Tulip Louise! (Did you see this video?!) It reaffirms how lucky we are to have Anna as a regular contributor on the At Home blog! Below, Anna styled two ensembles for the holidays, just for you. And if that’s not enough, check out the holiday looks she created for our December issue (here) as well!
âTis the season to deck ourselves out in the most festive holiday looks! I went ahead and did the shopping for two killer color combinations: gold-n-red and pink-n-blue. Skip the traditional LBD this year and take a risk with a fresh spin on color!
Look I:

We’re so excited about our newest guest blogger! Fashionista-turned-interior designer Meridith Hamilton will be offering up a monthly dose of style in her new guest blog column. Take it away, Meridith!
I don’t know if it was the fabulous pair of Tom Ford Cat Eye sunglasses I purchased on my recent trip to NYC…
….or the fact that I am catching up on past seasons of Mad Men (thank you, Netflix)…
…but I am all of a sudden inspired by anything Mid-Century Modern. Â Whether it be fashion or interior design, I am loving this particular era as well as the clean lines, classic appeal and simplistic form that goes along with it.
One of my favorite things about the 1960’s era in which Mad Men is set is that the design was simple and the colors were bold. Â This was a time when “Modern” was still fresh and new, but a little more progressed than its early years. Â Therefore, some of my recent fashion and furnishing finds have obviously been influenced by the Mad Men era.
First, the interiors:
Just in case you don’t know – the star of the show is the dashing Don Draper. Â While Draper’s home (this is a photo of the space before his wife, Betty, hired a designer in a later season) was a mix of styles, the angular sectional and throw pillows are quintessential of the era. Â Draper’s office from Sterling Cooper, however, is a beautiful example of early Mid-Century Modern.
Check out some current installations that pay homage to this era…
Now, for the fashion:
The above collage shows Joan Harris (née Holloway), the curvy, Monroe-esque vixen of the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce offices, Don Draper, the mysterious yet charming leading man, and Elizabeth “Betty” Draper, the archetypal frustrated housewife of the 60’s.
The fashion of the era was stunning and extremely similar to the interiors – simple designs that hinted at the structure beneath and bold color. Â Women were seen with bold patterned accessories and modest hemlines. Â Men donned sleek tailored jackets and narrow lapels with skinny ties thanks to the Italian influence.
Here are a few of today’s inspired pieces…Â Â
Banana Republic
John Galliano, Fall 2012
Oscar de la Renta, Resort 2013Â Â
 J Crew
Oscar de la Renta, Resort 2013
 Dolce & Gabbana, Fall 2012Â
 Banana Republic

Rounding out our week of style tips, Sharon Mosley has prepared a Top 6 list, so to speak, of her favorite (and surprisingly affordable) holiday pieces. They’re for the woman who wants to stand out from the bunch, who wants to put a unique twist on how she dresses for those special occasions. After all, who doesn’t mind being the center of attention every now and then? (See more of Sharon’s tips here.)
Great ideas, Sharon. Personally, we can’t wait to get our hands on those red shoes…
Don’t stress out just because you have to “dress out†for all those holiday parties. This is supposed to be a season for celebration (aren’t we all so ready for it!), so remember to have fun and do it in style! Here are my top fashion picks for this party season:
Start with some major accessories. This is an easy way to update your favorite little black dress! Go for long, layered necklaces and mix your metals! Don’t be afraid to mix gold and silver or bronze and pewter. Add sparkle with an oversized vintage brooch. Better yet, attach a statement-making pin to a strand of your grandmother’s pearls!

For a very modern touch, be sure to mix it up when it comes to your clothes, too. Check out the latest holiday look from Banana Republic: a soft mohair sweater paired with a slinky silk dress and “toughened” up with black opaque hose, leather gloves and lace-up boots.

If you’re looking for a new way to get some chills (and thrills) going this holiday season, look for a festive dress or top with the trendy one-shoulder silhouette like this one from Jovani.

Another way to stand out from the crowd at a holiday party is to get creative in a special evening coat, wrap or vest – an “artistic†piece that you can slide over jeans and a turtleneck for more casual occasions or a lace skirt and satin tank for dressier parties.

Go for color! In a sea of holiday black, you’ll be sure to up the glam factor. One of my favorite holiday hues this year is a gorgeous teal blue like this dress from New York Anna Sui’s new guest designer collection at Target.

And don’t forget the sparkle! Put on your twinkle toes and glitter in metallic peep-toe pumps or slivers of silver ballet flats. Or better yet, these vampy high heel ruby red satin evening sandals decked out with crystals from Stuart Weitzman. Dorothy never had this much fun in the land of Oz!
