In the magazine biz, we’re always a season ahead: figuring out Christmas in July, or like today, when I was touring a gorgeous house on Beaver Lake as a prospect for our June “waterfront homes” issue. Since I’m thinking lakehouse now, here’s a favorite from our March issue: a new home in the Brighton Pointe community on Greers Ferry Lake.
Owners Jackie and Gary Childers have created not just an outdoor room, but nearly an entire outdoor living area–complete with dining and lounging spaces, plus a cozy fireplace hangout.

I’m an avowed armchair traveler, and for this upcoming long weekend, here’s one seat I’d be glad to occupy and plan my next projects or trips.
It’s at the beautiful Bella Vista lakehouse of architect Chip Chambers and his wife Susan, which we features last July in our Waterfront Homes issue. With it’s classic styling and amazing view, it’s one of my favorite lake houses. And, that beautiful wooden boat would be ideal for some Memorial Day lake cruising.
Hankering for some lakefront time now? Our June issue, full of waterfront homes, should be in your mail box and on newsstand soon. Just so you can do some armchair traveling of your own.
At Home Room of the Week 6.22.10
Summer heat usually makes me want to stay out of the kitchen (send the hubby off to the hot grill while I toss a chilled salad!), but this lake view and a breeze could entice me to spend a little more time on food prep. Owners Chip and Susan Chambers (Chip’s a very talented architect and part of Chambers & Soule Design Builders) built this guest house on Lake Windsor in Bella Vista as a family gathering place.
Family breakfast would be a treat, sipping coffee, nibbling a croissant…
And after breakfast, heading over to the boat house for a cruise around the lake.
Yes, we like this place so much we’ve visited twice, photographing the kitchen for this year’s waterfront homes issues in June.

Color Inspiration: Coral + Turquoise
This summer, and heading right into fall, one of the hottest color palettes for home and fashion is Coral + Turquoise. It’s popping up all over the place, from the runway to the pages of At Home in Arkansas. This season’s turquoise (dubbed “Lagoon” by Pantone) lends a lively, tropical touch to accessories, like a shawl or handbag or accent pillows in your home. And the more subtle pink-y orange grounds the bright blue as an ideal complement. Scott Paterek of Massimo incorporated it through terracotta marble against the waters of Lake Hamilton (below). Considering the beautiful result, we suggest you spend a little time thinking about ways to work this palette into your life this season too!

get cooking in a beachy lakefront kitchen
After our rainy, rainy spring (it actually was misting rain the day we photographed this lakeside house–we took those outside shots in the moments of sun!), summer is now in full swing in Arkansas. It’s a week of 90+ degree temps, and I am ready to HEAD TO THE LAKE! (If you feel the same, you might try our Waterfront Homes issue for some armchair travel).
My ideal lakeside retreat has a lovely kitchen like this for some R&R cooking. Everyone still needs to eat, but why not have a view of the lake while you prep veggies for the grill? I love the color palette too, with the blues and grays that mimic the water. I’d chop zucchini in this kitchen anytime.
who doesn’t love a great sidechair?
I’m smitten by these chairs in Conway designer Tami Risinger’s lake house in Hot Springs. They’re based on a design from the legendary designer Frances Elkins, and Tami used them in just the right way: to make a sculptural statement, turning a small sitting area into a focal point. (if you’re smitten too, she found them in Little Rock at Bear-Hill Interiors).
Tami’s chairs are in good company….I spied them in a recent House Beautiful issue as well! Fresh looks for two very different styles.
