An El Dorado couple redefines their beloved home’s kitchen to serve the next generation

Two years ago, these El Dorado empty-nesters made the decision to move across town into a residence that formerly belonged to one set of their parents. As the home where the couple took their own children for family gatherings, the 1963 ranch-style house held a lot of memories and charm. However, they agreed it needed to be modernized for them, their three now-grown children (including At Home staffer Laura LaRue) and their spouses, as well as their grandchildren, all of who visit frequently.

Built for both personal enjoyment as well as entertaining, this Arkadelphia family’s outdoor space invites relaxation and togetherness

Terri and Taylor King’s backyard had numerous things going for it: a generous-sized porch, a pool, and a sweeping view of their pasture. However, after raising two children in the home they built in 2001, they were ready for a few updates. “Richard Harp worked with them on a renovation of the interior of their home, and when it came time to talk about the backyard, he suggested the Kings meet with us,” David Munsey III of Better Lawns and Gardens says of his introduction to the project. Specifically, the Kings hoped to create a space they could enjoy together on weeknights as well as when family and friends visited. “This is their forever home, and we wanted to help them create something that would last and that they could enjoy with their kids and grandkids for years,” Munsey says.

A style-setting Little Rock mother blends contemporary and vintage furnishings to create a personalized, comfortable home for her family

Lauren Strother knows a thing or two about home design. She first became acquainted with the discipline while following her mother, a former interior designer, on jobs. She has also previously worked with At Home in Arkansas and currently serves as the marketing director at Emporium Home, the wildly successful home furnishings and accessories wholesale brand founded by her sister Ashley Childers. These experiences have culminated in a style all her own that seems to blend contemporary with classic—much like the inviting home she shares with her husband Lee and their two young children, Liam and Livingston.

Designer Susan Walsh works with a West Little Rock family to create a contemporary nursery for their newest arrival

Welcoming a baby is a family affair, so it’s only natural that designing a space specifically for the new addition should include everyone, even the youngest family member. “This family has a precious nine-year-old daughter who loves to be involved when we work on their home,” designer Susan Walsh of Bear Hill Interiors says. To help create a nursery for her new baby brother, the designer tasked the young girl and her mother with finding nursery images they liked on Pinterest.

A Little Rock mom creates a truly custom home in the Heights for her young family to enjoy

When undergoing a new construction or renovation project, there is always the temptation to keep close tabs on the progress and a wish to witness the sketch of a blueprint turn into a reality. When a Little Rock couple decided it was time to build a new home for their young family, this mother put her thoughts to paper and began envisioning the ideal space. “With three dogs, the amount of stuff that comes along with a toddler, and hopes of having more children, we decided we were in need of more space. We knew we wanted to stay in the same neighborhood, so we started coming up with a wish list and it took off from there. From sketching the floor plan on graph paper and working with a draftsman to finish it up to stopping by the house at least twice a day, I was hands-on throughout the entire process,” the homeowner says. And with construction happening just around the corner from their existing home, she and her husband had a front-row seat to the transformation. Read on to see just how this dedicated dreamer’s vision came to life.

Designer Heather Chadduck Hillegas blends modern aesthetics and iconic architecture for a comfortable family retreat at Eden Isle

When it comes to lakeside homes, few Arkansas communities carry the history and ambience that seems to flow naturally at Eden Isle. Located on the banks of Greers Ferry Lake, the small resort has a distinct appearance that radiates from the communal feel of the on-site Red Apple Inn through to condos and, of course, the homes. This character can be attributed in part to inspiration from renowned Arkansas architect E. Fay Jones and many of his colleagues who adhered to his style, which included features such as natural stone, an abundance of light, and breathtaking views of the landscape thanks to numerous windows.
