Past Meets Present
Vintage decor sprinkled seamlessly throughout a modern farmhouse speaks to this blogger’s love of stories
As a blogger, Alicia Armstrong is a natural storyteller. Her home design blog, “Our Vintage Nest,” not only showcases her own home, but also illustrates why she’s drawn to decor with a previous life: she loves the stories behind those pieces. “The chippiness and wear and tear they have had over the years tell a beautiful story,” she says. “I love to imagine where it came from and who owned them.” By styling her vintage finds alongside traditional furnishings and modern appliances, Alicia has created a home that feels classic and cohesive.

Oh, What Fun!
With a little help from their friends, this young Little Rock family’s home is transformed into a rustic-meets-refined winter wonderland
It wasn’t a chance meeting that brought Kirstin and Glen Johnson together, but rather the help of two close friends—Whitney Lammers and interior designer Beth Davis. “I was a sales rep for Delta faucets at the time and had been trying to call on Beth in Searcy for a while. I was able to meet with her, and almost immediately she asked if I was single,” Whitney recalls. “After a conversation we had, I had been trying to set my friend Glen up with someone,” Beth notes. “Whitney just had such a precious demeanor about her that I knew if she wasn’t single, she must have a friend.” As luck would have it, Whitney did have a friend—Kirstin. She and Glen are now married with three children.

Fresh Take on Traditional
Earthy neutrals, cool accents, and abundant sunlight tie together this home’s modern take on traditional style

When Julie and Jeff Fackler decided to build from scratch in Bentonville, they had a few “musts” in mind: First, they wanted a one-story home where they would be comfortable after retirement. Check. Second, with their kids grown and out of the house, they wanted to live a little smaller. Check. And third, they wanted to be able to walk to downtown restaurants and events. Check.

A Modern Hog Heaven
A central Arkansas family creates a weekend retreat in downtown Fayetteville that’s primed for entertaining, celebrating, and giving back

Designer Becky Charton has what some may refer to as an out-of-the-box approach to design: She puts relationships first. “Our style is very personal, and I tell my clients that we go on a journey of self-realization together,” the owner of North Little Rock-based Table Setters, Inc. says. Perhaps because of this, Charton has developed a handful of clients—which she laughingly refers to as “lifers”—who she works with time and time again. This group includes Conway businessman Todd Ross and his wife, Kristie.

Let the Light In
A fresh take on farmhouse design brings life to this ranch-style home’s kitchen

Tucked away on two acres of property in West Little Rock sits the home of Angie and Bob Alexander. Inspired by the setting, the couple was eager to create a home that complemented the natural environment. “This is a Chenal home right in the middle of town, but it feels like it’s out in the middle of the country,” Katie Henry of Katie Grace Designs says of her clients’ rural-like setting. The Alexanders previously hired Henry to revamp their family room, dining room, and entry way to evoke a light, farmhouse-inspired style—coined as “Chenal Transitional Farmhouse” by Henry. “Angie called me about six months after that ready to do a full-home remodel and asked if I would help her,” Henry explains.

Grand Central Kitchen
Standout fixtures and intricate design details bring personality to this West Little Rock space

A shared situation can often make for the best relationships. For designer Miguel Newberg of M. N’Teriors and her West Little Rock clients, temporary displacement brought them together. “We had known each other for a number of years,” the designer relates, “and then we discovered we were living in the same apartment complex while I remodeled and she built.” The homeowner says she had “always wanted to work with Miguel,” and the shared circumstance seemed to bring them together.

A Classic Reconfigured
A mother-daughter design team updates a quaint Hillcrest kitchen to make it function for a busy family

Picturesque homes with historic architecture and charming details are what make the Little Rock neighborhood of Hillcrest a popular, sought-after area. With the beauty of these homes sometimes comes the sacrifice of space. When Melody and Judge Chris Piazza set out to renovate their Hillcrest kitchen, they shared the following wish list with Mara Lamb Malcolm and Retha Lamb of Lamb’s Interior Design: better flow, additional storage, updated surfaces, and a central gathering area.
