How’s this for a huge transformation?

From a dinghy and drab room that’s completely uninviting.

To a beautifully soothing, multifunctional space. And…it’s all for a good cause. It’s the Ronald McDonald House Charities family room at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Ft. Smith, and Fayetteville designer Joshua Jones transformed it with a host of warm, natural and eco-friendly materials–you can see the full story here, including more Befores and dramatic Afters.

I fell in love with this photo the minute I saw it. And as much as I loved the room and the elegant furnishings, what caught my eye was the dog.

On countless shoots, I’ve seen dogs and cats find just the right place to be to make it into a photo. (The trick is that pets go toward the light, just like photographers do!) This bulldog had it all figured out.

 

Did you spot him? In case your eyes lingered on the Empire eight-arm chandelier or the 18th-century Persian rugs, I’ll pass on the clue that he’s looking in the door. This elegant home belongs to collectors Neal and Lisa Kirkpatrick, who in addition to loving dogs and antiques, love a good cause.

 

They’re big supporters of Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and in our April Welcoming Homes, Warm Hearts issue, we spotlight ACH’s Arkansas a la Carte fundraiser, coming up this month. Take their lead and celebrate a good cause while enjoying good food.
